وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ

Was-samaa'i wat-taariq

By the sky and the night comer

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ

Wa maa adraaka mat-taariq

And what can make you know what is the night comer?

ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ

An-najmuth-thaaqib

It is the piercing star

إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌۭ

In kullu nafsin lammaa 'alayhaa haafidh

There is no soul but that it has over it a protector

فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ

Falyanduril-insaanu mimma khuliq

So let man observe from what he was created

خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍۢ دَافِقٍۢ

Khuliqa min maa'in daafiq

He was created from a fluid, ejected

يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ

Yakhruju mim baynis-sulbi wat-taraa'ib

Emerging from between the backbone and the breastbones

إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌۭ

Innahu 'alaa raj'ihee laqaadir

Indeed Allah is able to return him

يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ

Yawma tublas-saraa'ir

On the Day when secrets are disclosed

فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍۢ وَلَا نَاصِرٍۢ

Famaa lahu min quwwatin wa laa naasir

Then he will have no power and no helper

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ

Was-samaa'i dhaaatir-raj'

By the sky which returns rain

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ

Wal-ardi dhaa-tis-sad'

And the earth which cracks open

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلٌۭ فَصْلٌۭ

Innahu laqawlun fasl

Indeed the Quran is a decisive statement

وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ

Wa maa huwa bilhazl

And it is not amusement

إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًۭا

Innahum yakeedoona kaydan

Indeed they are planning a plan

وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًۭا

Wa akeeydu kaydan

But I am planning a plan

فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًۢا

Famahhilil-kaafireena amhilhum ruwaydan

So allow time for the disbelievers — allow them a little respite
