وَٱلنَّـٰزِعَـٰتِ غَرْقًۭا

Wan-naazi'aati gharqaa

By those who extract with violence

وَٱلنَّـٰشِطَـٰتِ نَشْطًۭا

Wan-naashitaati nashtan

And by those who extract with ease

وَٱلسَّـٰبِحَـٰتِ سَبْحًۭا

Was-saabihati sabhan

And by those who glide smoothly

فَٱلسَّـٰبِقَـٰتِ سَبْقًۭا

Fas-saabiqaati sabqan

And those who race ahead

فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمْرًۭا

Fal-mudabiraati amran

And those who arrange matters

يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ

Yawma tarjufur-raajifah

On the Day the earth will shake violently

تَتْبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُ

Tatba'uhar-raadifah

Followed by subsequent shaking

قُلُوبٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ وَاجِفَةٌ

Quloobun yawma'idhin waajifah

Hearts will be trembling on that Day

أَبْصَـٰرُهَا خَـٰشِعَةٌۭ

Absaaruhaa khaashi'ah

Their eyes downcast

يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِى ٱلْحَافِرَةِ

Yaqooloona a-innaa lamardoodona fil-haafirah

They say: Will we really be returned to our former state?

أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَـٰمًۭا نَّخِرَةًۭ

A-idhaa kunnaa 'izaaman nakhirah

Even after we are decayed bones?

قَالُوا۟ تِلْكَ إِذًۭا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌۭ

Qaaloo tilka idhan karratun khaasira

They say: That would be a losing return

فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌۭ وَٰحِدَةٌۭ

Fa-innamaa hiya zajratun waahidah

But it will be only a single cry

فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ

Fa-idhaa hum bis-saaherah

And they will be on the surface of the earth

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ

Hal ataaka hadeethu Moosa

Has the story of Moses reached you?

إِذْ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى

Idh naadaahu rabbuhu bil-waadil-muqaddasi tuwan

When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa

ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ

Idh-hab ilaa fir'awna innahu tagha

Go to Pharaoh, for he has transgressed

فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ

Faqul hal laka ilaa an tazakkaa

And say: Would you like to purify yourself?

وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ

Wa ahdiyaka ilaa rabbika fatakhsha

And I will guide you to your Lord so you may fear Him

فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلْـَٔايَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ

Fa-araahul-aayatal-kubra

Then he showed him the greatest sign

فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ

Fakaddhaba wa 'asa

But he denied and disobeyed

ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ

Thumma adbara yas'aa

Then he turned away striving

فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ

Fahashara fanaadaa

So he gathered and called out

فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ

Faqaala ana rabbukumul-a'laa

And said: I am your Lord Most High

فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَٱلْأُولَىٰٓ

Fa-akhadhahullaahu nakalal-aakhirati wal-oolaa

So Allah seized him with exemplary punishment in the hereafter and this world

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةًۭ لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰٓ

Inna fee dhaalika la'ibratan liman yakhsha

Indeed in that is a lesson for whoever fears Allah

ءَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ ۚ بَنَىٰهَا

A-antum ashaddu khalqan amis-samaa'u banaahaa

Are you more difficult to create or the sky He constructed?

رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا

Rafa'a samkahaa fasawwaahaa

He raised its height and proportioned it

وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا

Wa aghtasha laylahaa wa akhraja duhaaahaa

He darkened its night and extracted its daylight

وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ

Wal-arda ba'da dhaalika dahaahaa

And the earth after that He spread out

أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرْعَىٰهَا

Akhraja minhaa maa'ahaa wa mar'aahaa

He extracted from it its water and its pasture

وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَرْسَىٰهَا

Wal-jibaala arsaahaa

And the mountains He set firmly

مَتَـٰعًۭا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ

Mataa'an lakum wa li-an'aamikum

As enjoyment for you and your livestock

فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ

Fa-idhaa jaa'atit-taammatul-kubra

So when the greatest catastrophe comes

يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰ

Yawma yatadhakkarul-insaanu maa sa'aa

The Day man will remember what he strove for

وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ

Wa burrizatil-jaeemu liman yaraa

And Hellfire will be shown to whoever sees

فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ

Fa-ammaa man taqhaa

As for he who transgressed

وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا

Wa aaatharal-hayaatad-dunyaa

And preferred the worldly life

فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ

Fa-innal-jaeema hiyal-ma'waa

Then indeed Hellfire will be the refuge

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفْسَ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ

Wa ammaa man khaafa maqaama rabbihi wa nahan-nafsa 'anil-hawaa

But as for he who feared the position of his Lord and restrained the soul from desire

فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَنَّةَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ

Fa-innal-jannata hiyal-ma'waa

Then indeed Paradise will be the refuge

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَىٰهَا

Yas'aloonaka 'anis-saa'ati ayyaana mursaahaa

They ask you about the Hour: when is its arrival?

فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَىٰهَآ

Feema anta min dhikraahaa

In what position are you to mention it?

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَىٰهَآ

Ilaa rabbika muntahaahaa

To your Lord is its finality

إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰهَا

Innamaa anta mundhiru man yakhshaahaa

You are only a warner for those who fear it

كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوٓا۟ إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَىٰهَا

Ka-annahum yawma yarawnahaa lam yalbatooo illaa 'ashiyyatan aw duhaaahaa

The Day they see it, it will be as if they had not remained except an afternoon or its morning
